La acreditación de registrar es el proceso formal de autorización mediante el cual [[icann|ICANN]] certifica a una organización para vender registros de nombres de dominio bajo el [[raa|Acuerdo de Acreditación de Registrar (RAA)]]. Los registrars acreditados deben cumplir requisitos financieros, técnicos y operativos, pagar tarifas anuales de acreditación, mantener depósitos de [[data-escrow|custodia de datos]] y cumplir con las auditorías de cumplimiento continuas de ICANN. El proceso de acreditación existe para garantizar que los registrars cumplan los estándares mínimos de exactitud de [[whois|WHOIS]], protección al consumidor, gestión del ciclo de vida del dominio y respuesta al abuso. En 2024 hay aproximadamente 3.000 registrars acreditados por ICANN.
