Ein Domain-Backorder ist eine Reservierung bei einem Drop-Catching-Dienst oder Registrar, bei der der Dienst gebeten wird, einen bestimmten Domainnamen in dem Moment zu registrieren, in dem er nach Ablauf und Löschung verfügbar wird. Backorder-Dienste berechnen eine Pauschalgebühr (typischerweise 10–80 $) unabhängig vom Erfolg, obwohl einige nur im Erfolgsfall abrechnen. Falls mehrere Kunden dasselbe Domain gebackordered haben und es erfolgreich gecatcht wird, findet eine interne [[domain-auction|Auktion]] statt. Ein Backorder garantiert den Erwerb der Domain nicht.
